Book Description:

Thomas Knox was in charge of Boston Light, the lighthouse on Brewster Island that overlooked Boston Harbor. The British destroyed the lighthouse during the American Revolution. By 1783 it had been rebuilt and Thomas became the lighthouse keeper.

Boston Harbor was a busy colonial seaport.
Lighthouse keepers tended huge oil lamps that warned ship captains, especially in stormy weather, of the dangerous rocky coastline.
The first Boston Light was built in 1716. Today, people still can visit Brewster Island and climb the 76 steps to the top of the modern lighthouse.
